2 kwi 2018 · After extensive research into this subject, I compiled the shortest, most complete summary I could muster, and it goes as follows: In the original 1611 version of the King James Bible the letter “J” didn’t exist in Hebrew. The original Hebrew name of Jesus is “Yhwshua.”.
Jesus is simply the anglicized pronunciation of Joshua, Yeshuas, or Jehoshua. There is no “J” in Hebrew; it is a “Y”. God and Jesus are interested in our hearts, not the language we use to address them.
The Letter J was invented for the Italian language by a man called “Gian Giorgio Trissino” in the year 1524. It was used in Roman Numerals, but back then, it was an alternative way of writing I, not its own letter. Before the letter J, Jesus’ name was pronounced “Yeh-Soos”.
