3 gru 2023 · In late September, a parade led by Carlo Tresca, an IWW leader, marched through Lawrence carrying flags and banners declaring "No God; No Master!". Following this, the mayor encouraged citizens to wear U.S. flags on their lapels as a rebuke. On Columbus Day, a patriotic parade pronouncing "For God and Country!"
The IWW lumber strike of 1917 led to the eight-hour day and vastly improved working conditions in the Pacific Northwest. Though mid-century historians credited the US Government and "forward thinking lumber magnates" for agreeing to such reforms, an IWW strike forced these concessions.
