Go to DeSuME for the emulator and check the mega thread for the rom. It's easy and basically risk free.
For games generation 4 and 5, use desmume. Used it for years, still works like a charm. For gens 6 and 7 you'll need Citra, however that was taken down recently (because of Nintendo) For gens 8 and 9, you'll need yuzu/suyu (yuzu also got taken down but you can still find it, also suyu got blasted like yesterday.) 2.
