The real abbey road end is sad in context, the fantastic psych rock sleazy lounge with John and Paul acting like dicks and an outro sax solo from a dead rockstar is the perfect ending to the Beatles legacy.
On its own its a fine song, but after the two songs prior to it, after the whole medley, the whole album, and the whole discography, The End is basically the ultimate Beatles song. The raucousness, the solos, the simple "love you"s, and the soppiness towards the end just make it phenomenal.
