The Bureau of Prisons (Bureau) operates a suicide prevention program to assist staff in identifying and managing potentially suicidal inmates. When staff identify an inmate as being at risk for suicide, staff will place the inmate on suicide watch.
Fortunately, comprehensive suicide prevention does not require building entire new systems or separate programs. Instead, resources that are already available in schools, communities, and state agencies can be leveraged to better support the prevention of suicide and related problems among youth.
