The State Fair of Texas covers a lot of ground, taking over the 277 acres of Fair Park for the entirety of the fair, including several buildings on fair grounds. There's also Big Tex, the 55-foot-tall cowboy that greets you at the fair gates (yes, he actually talks!), also known as the tallest cowboy in Texas.
A glimpse of the State Fair of Texas at night in 2006. The State Fair of Texas opened its gates for the first time on October 26, 1886. Approximately 14,000 people attend the opening day. On November 7, 1886, the fair closes and attracted over 100,000 people for the very first year.
