The Marathon Martinez Renewable Fuels Facility is located in the San Francisco Bay Area in an unincorporated area known as Avon, East of Martinez, California. It refines biobased feedstocks such as animal fat , soybean oil and corn oil into renewable diesel .
As part of this effort, we are repositioning our Martinez refinery through the Martinez Renewable Fuels Project to become a renewable fuels manufacturing and terminal facility that will be able to produce approximately 730 million gallons of renewable fuels per year.

2 mar 2021 · MPC estimates its conversion of the Martinez facility from petroleum refining to renewable diesel production will reduce the facility’s manufacturing greenhouse gas emissions by 60%, total criteria air pollutants by 70% and water use by 1 billion gallons every year.
9 kwi 2024 · Tesoro suspended operations at the Martinez Refinery in May 2020 and announced its plan to convert the refinery from producing fuels from crude oil to fuels from renewable sources such as vegetable oils.
Prior to its acquisition by Marathon Petroleum in 2018, Tesoro was the third-largest independent petroleum refining and marketing company in the United States. The merger between the two companies formed the largest American refiner by capacity and the fifth in the world.
