25 maj 2021 · Slime Staff is an early Pre-HM Pre-boss weapon, Pirate Staff is a Pre-mech weapon. At least I think Slime Staff is slightly better than Finch Staff from what I experienced. It can do alright while you're grinding for Flinx Staff. It's useable against King Slime as well, maybe against Eater of Worlds as well? Pirate Staff is just depressing.

I've never been super impressed with Optic Staff but Pirate Staff has always struck me as especially bad. Out of the two, I'd say Optic Staff. Consider the Sanguine Staff if you haven't already, it's a very strong and consistent weapon.
Eyes are better for kiting boss fights, such as Fishron or The Twins (farming). Pygmies are better for enclosed boss fights, such as Golem and Plantera. Optic staff is probably best of the three for non-summoning classes, as they'll only have one or maybe two minions at most, anyways.
24 maj 2021 · The purpose of the Deadly Sphere Staff is not to summon a horde of them, but rather to deal instant 100 damage in a line towards the closest or marked enemy every resummon. It also falls under the category of items used to kill mobs above your event grinder, which includes Optic Staff and Pirate Staff. No big deal if you don't get it, though.
The Spider Staff is better than the Pirate Staff under certain conditions because the minions attach themselves to enemies. Spiders inflict very good consistent damage over time, whereas the Pirates - despite having a potentially higher DPS - tend to jump around a lot more which wastes time.
27 maj 2020 · That actualy depends on where and what you fight. If you spend a lot of time in the air, pygmy and pirates are kinda crap. If you want single target damage, pygmies are awesome. Pirates are kinda crap, it's like slime staff 2.0.
The optic staff is worse than the blade staff in terms of damage for summoners. It's only useful for other classes who want a summon that won't create too many i-frames. You can actually stick with the blade staff until you get the lunar dragon or teraprisma
