GM mode lets one player create and control environments with NPCs, objects, maps and more for 4 other players to participate in. In short, it's like being a Dungeon Master in DnD for four players. It recreates the experience of playing a tabletop or pen&paper game with the mechanics of Divinity.
It's the Divinity Engine 2 that you get with the game, aka what they used to make the game minus some small features (like the stuff mentioned above). It's meant for active DMing, not campaign making like NWN.
