Some negatives: they are very limited in rolling back the game in a meaningful way to feel classic on the Time-Locked Servers, and leveling is so fast on Anor, that a very engaged portion of the population just rushed to endgame and missed a lot of what was happening outside their grinding.
Ark is probably the most active for group content, but ark and Brandy constantly trade spots for "most populated". Crickhollow is in the middle for population of the 5 US servers. Landroval was the least populus US server last I checked, but has a strong RP community.

Whether you're on Brandywine or Nimrodel, population means little else except if you're looking for PUG end-game raiding. Even then the more low-pop servers usually have raiding alliances where they coordinate nights to ensure that there's always enough people at raids.
