7 paź 2023 · It depends on the size of the glue joint and the size of the parts attached. Tiny part and small amount of cement used, at least a few hours. Large surface area and big parts, (wings to fuselage, or additional plastic strips for increased joint strength,) minimum of overnight.
27 sie 2021 · Using the EXTRA THIN Tamiya cement (light green cap) is different from using the THIN (green cap) variety. When using the EXTRA THIN variety, the two plastic parts must be in firm contact before applying the glue otherwise they wouldn’t bond.
Viscosity of the cement you use plays an important role in the evaporation time. Very runny cements like Tamiya Extra Thin evaporate within seconds in open air and only a little slower in the joint itself. Thick gooey cements like the infamous Testors Plastic Cement in the red tube can take hours.
15 paź 2014 · If it is a part that is fragile or in a tricky spot, the more time you give it to cure the better. I love the stuff! I also have a bottle of regular Tamiya cement on had.
From what I’ve gathered the Tamiya cement works best on unpainted surfaces, and in personal experience really ruins paint if I pre paint things before I glue them together. What’s the best technique for stuff that’s best painted before assembly though?
It's best to clean surfaces of paint with a blade before cementing. I've got a tendency to use Zap a Gap thin or medium if i can't get away from bonding a painted area. Unless you're referring to painting over the cement, in which case there is no trouble at all.
21 paź 2021 · Cure time is about 2 hours for flat paint, gloss I usually let it sit 5-6 hours as I use a wet coat at the end. I tend to push the dry times to the limits so take your time.
