15 mar 2024 · Alcohol abstinence is the first line of treatment, with periodic liver enzyme tests to monitor ongoing liver damage. Abstinence is also the key to prevention of ARLD. Complications include oesophageal or gastric variceal bleeding, ascites, coagulopathy, hepatic encephalopathy, and liver cancer.
Summary. The harmful use of alcohol has been estimated to cause approx-imately 3.3 million deaths every year, corresponding to nearly 6% of all deaths globally. Therefore, the effective management and treatment of alcoholic liver disease is a pertinent public health issue.
