Porter's Rare Heritage Turkeys. Sweetgrass. Store / Varieties / Sweetgrass. In 1996 a few tri-colored birds appeared out of a broad breasted bronze flock in Big Timber, MT, at Sweetgrass Farms. These birds had a heavily marked royal palm pattern with chestnut red.

The blue sweetgrass has the same genotype as a regular sweetgrass with the addition of the dominant slate factor (D) which dilutes black pigment to blue. Genotype b'b' cgcg Dd, black winged bronze based with gray and dominant slate.
So, after some more searching (and money of course) I found some Poults! We were able to acquire 7 new poults! YAY! So the summer of 2022 was a success! 2 big gorgeous gentle toms and 5 sweet hens to start our flock! Sweetgrass. Poults are $20 each. The Sweetgrass is one of our more popular varieties. They are very colorful. They also have some variability in their colors and its hard to find two that are exactly the same. They are a large turkey, about the same size as a Blue Slate. They do breed true to color.
Sweetgrass are a Truley Remarkable and Distinguished bird. Genotypes: (b1b1cgcg) Black Winged Bronze based with Oregon Gray (aka Palm genes) The Sweetgrass has a color pattern similar to the Royal Palm with chestnut coloring.
