Abstract: The paper discusses the geomorphology of the Sunda Trench, an oceanic trench located in the eastern Indian Ocean along the Sumatra and Java Islands of the Indonesian archipelago.
1 paź 2019 · The Java Trench, also known as the Sunda Trench, is located south and west of the islands of Java and Sumatra in the eastern Indian Ocean, and is in excess of 3200 km in length. The trench is formed as the Indo-Australian Plate subducts beneath the Eurasian Plate, at a rate of between 60 and 73 mm per year ( De Mets et al., 2010 ).
Sunda Trench. The Sunda Trench is a subduction zone extending in an arch from the Northwestern tip of Sumatra to Flores in Eastern Indonesia. A strong earthquake in this zone can generate a tsunami that arrives at the coast within 20 minutes, leaving little time for issuing an early warning.
