The western and southern borders of Sundaland are clearly marked by the deeper waters of the Sunda Trench – some of the deepest in the world – and the Indian Ocean. [4]
Sunda Shelf. Map of Sahul and Sunda. Geologically, the Sunda Shelf (/ ˈsʌndə / [1]) is a south-eastern extension of the continental shelf of Mainland Southeast Asia. Major landmasses on the shelf include Bali, Borneo, Java, Madura, and Sumatra, as well as their surrounding smaller islands. [2]
Western Sundaland was a combination of basin opening and strike-slip transpressional deformation. The configuration suggests a free boundary particularly to the east (trench pull associated with the Proto-South China Sea subduction; JavaeSulawesi trench subduction rollback).
The trench stretches from the Lesser Sunda Islands past Java, around the southern coast of Sumatra to the Andaman Islands, and forms the boundary between the Indo-Australian Plate and Eurasian Plate (more specifically, Sunda Plate).
1 gru 2014 · Structural map of the major ridges and basins of South Sundaland from SE Borneo to Eastern Java and Flores basins. The region of East Java–Madura–Kanggean south of the Meratus Mountains and Bawean Arch (Figure 5, Figure 6), includes the Java basins and continental ridges (Ketapang High/North Madura ridge).
31 gru 2020 · The paper discusses the geomorphology of the Sunda Trench, an oceanic trench located in the eastern Indian Ocean along the Sumatra and Java Islands of the Indonesian archipelago.
6 lip 2018 · We use the resulting database to develop an updated kinematic restoration. We test the regional or local nature of paleomagnetic rotations against fits between the restored orientation of the Sunda Trench and seismic tomography images of the associated slabs.
