This program will deliver a minimum of 12 submarines into the fleet, replacing the current Ohio Class fleet and providing persistent strategic deterrence into the 2080s. In October 2020, construction of the first Columbia hull oficially began and is now over 42% complete.
The COLUMBIA Class Submarine Program (SSBN 826) will design and construct a replacement for the OHIO Class Fleet Ballistic Missile Submarines (SSBN) which begin retiring in 2027 at a rate of one per year.
Delivery dates have been updated for the following ships based on actual performance: • HYMAN G. RICKOVER (SSN 795) projected to deliver in May 2023 (was Feb 2023 in PB23) • NEW JERSEY (SSN 796) projected to delivery in September 2023 (was Jan 2024 in PB23)
