9 kwi 2021 · I would examine for a cracked valve cover first and act accordingly. The fun part is seeing the nice patina and cleaning before reassembling. Here's the difference between the M54 and my N54 which was much more work than the E46 VCG at similar miles.
31 sty 2018 · The shoulder bolts are designed to bottom out against the head when torqued to 4.7 ft. lbs. Tightening these shoulder bolts beyond this specified torque does nothing to compress the rubber gasket any further and potentially can shear the 6mm thread.
25 mar 2018 · Only 36K miles, don't know how long it has been leaking. Not dripping on ground yet so didn't notice. But recently underneath and saw all the oily grime on cross member behind oil pan. Followed it to drivers side engine mount and up some other pieces to valve cover.
25 sty 2023 · I recently replaced all the gaskets of the valve cover and it seems like oil keeps leaking out of this one specific bolt. The one under the wire. Does anyone have any suggestions.
25 cze 2015 · I have been reading around the forum about the common oil leaks in the head gasket and valve covers on many Subaru engines. It sounds like the usual advice is that if the problem is addressed early enough, it's cheap to fix either DIY or at a mechanic and not a serious threat to the engine.
8 lut 2023 · The cam cover is removable - take it off and clean it. If it were my engine, I would also remove the VANOS and do the seals. While it is out clean it thoroughly with kerosene.
3 lut 2023 · The gaskets get hard over time, and let oil seep through. If it bothers you, and good PM, be fine just changing the gasket out. If you wanted, the OEM plastic one new is like $300.
