Welcome to this the Feast of St Matthew. Matthew was one of Jesus’ twelve apostles. He was called by Jesus to follow him and accepted this invitation with an open, trusting heart. This meant a radical change of life for Matthew as he had been a tax collector and a publican.
Saint Matthew, as you were one of the lucky twelve who walked the Earth with Jesus by your side, you were continually made aware of your own nothingness before his greatness and saw many evidences of God’s immense grace.
Closing Prayer. God of mercy, You chose a tax collector, Saint Matthew, to share the dignity of the apostles. By his example and prayers help us to follow Christ and remain faithful in your service. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen. Blessing
