1 lis 2023 · Investment stewardship is investors exercising responsible allocation, management, and oversight of capital, through active ownership and engagement, to create and preserve enterprise value within portfolio companies and improve long-term risk-adjusted returns for clients and beneficiaries.
Stewardship: investor approaches to working with companies to encourage improved performance on governance and other topics; in the case of sustainability, stewardship is focused on ESG specific topics with room for improvement and often focused on contributions to SDG relevant topics.
The objective of investment stewardship is to use the access fund managers have to the companies in which they invest – and the mutual trust that they have built up over time – to manage material ESG risks and create value for clients.
In this ViewPoint, we review the roles of the stakeholders in the investment stewardship ecosystem, including asset managers, asset owners, index providers, and proxy advisors. We then explore the different approaches to investment stewardship, including BlackRock’s engagement-first approach.
