There are quite a few places but I would suggest Reserve. Throughout the buildings and on top of all the buildings you will find loose weapon mod loot and can find lots of ammo and magazines with ammo. Finding magazines will give you chances at getting higher tier ammo.
Look near military vehicles and the wooden military crates on most maps. Those often have little 30 round boxes of higher tier ammo. Ammo is usually dependent on map.
