10 sty 2015 · The Hebrew verb חֶ֫סֶד (Translit. Hesed/Chesed/Heced) is rendered ‘steadfast love’ in the ESV. Together with his faithfulness, God’s steadfast love is probably the most celebrated of God’s characteristics in the Old Testament. First and foremost it represents God’s ongoing love and kindness to his covenant people.

The ESV uses “steadfast love.” NASB attempts “lovingkindness.” NKJV and NIV make other efforts to communicate hesed in English. But they all fail. Hesed is a uniquely Hebrew word.

Other terms such as "devotion" (p. 60), "steadfast love" and "reciprocal love" (p. 101) also appear. Glueck's interpretation of hesed did not however solve some in-stances of the term which had earlier been regarded as problematical.
