27 maj 2021 · Throughout the Hebrew Bible, we see hesed translated in a number of different ways; steadfast love, mercy, kindness, and goodness. While these synonyms develop our understanding, they only just skim the surface of this multifaceted, rich word.
Chesed (Hebrew: חֶסֶד, also Romanized: Ḥeseḏ) is a Hebrew word that means 'kindness or love between people', specifically of the devotional piety of people towards God as well as of love or mercy of God towards humanity.
On the other hand, "steadfast love" of the RSV (23), "loving kindness" of the NEB and "grace" of the JB do not sufficiently represent the divine activity which supports the king.

The ESV uses “steadfast love.” NASB attempts “lovingkindness.” NKJV and NIV make other efforts to communicate hesed in English. But they all fail. Hesed is a uniquely Hebrew word.
