The day before 17 May 2018 – Norway’s Constitution Day – the story of Norway’s largest company took a new turn. After 46 years with “Statoil” as part of the name, the general meeting adopted a new, more comprehensive name. Statoil was no longer to be called Statoil. It would be called Equinor.
10 kwi 2022 · Statoil owned 15 per cent of the shares in Norsk Olje a.s (Norol) when that company was established, and acquired full ownership from 1 January 1988. Although still organised as a subsidiary with its own board and brand, Norol was nevertheless Statoil’s exclusive distribution company.
27 cze 2022 · Statoil changed its name to Equinor on 16 May 2018. That marked a strategic shift, initiated by CEO Eldar Sætre, towards becoming a broader energy company.
26 sie 2022 · Statoil quickly became Norway’s largest oil company. Its first licence interest was in the Statfjord field, which came on stream in 1979. The company was the first Norwegian player to obtain operator responsibility, on the Gullfaks field in 1981, and it took over the Statfjord operatorship in 1987.
