Sec. 92.006. WAIVER OR EXPANSION OF DUTIES AND REMEDIES. (a) A landlord's duty or a tenant's remedy concerning security deposits, security devices, the landlord's disclosure of ownership and management, or utility cutoffs, as provided by Subchapter C, D, E, or G, respectively, may not be waived.
23 wrz 2024 · Landlord/Tenant Law. Rent Increases. There is not a statewide law that places limits on how much a landlord can increase the rent when a lease is renewed. In fact, Texas law only allows cities to establish local rent control ordinances in certain cases.
Renter’s Rights. The most important source of information about your relationship with your landlord is your rental agreement, whether it is written or oral. Some landlords prefer oral agreements, but it is more common for them to require your signature on a written lease. Be sure to read the lease carefully before you sign it.
In addition to rights under the Fair Housing Act (www.justice.gov) which are further described on the Fair Housing 101 page, Texas Property Code (www.statutes.legis.state.tx.us) includes an overview of your basic rights as a tenant in a rental property.
