The legislature of the U.S. state of Nevada has convened many times since statehood became effective on October 31, 1864. It continues to operate under the amended Constitution of Nevada of 1864 . [ 1 ]
The Nevada Constitution creates three separate branches of government: Legislative, Executive, and Judicial. The legislative authority for the state is vested in the Senate and the Assembly . . . we call these two bodies the houses . . . which together are designated as “The Legislature of the State of Nevada.”
Nevada has a bicameral legislature, which means it is made up of two houses: the Senate and the Assembly. The Nevada Constitution sets a maximum limit of legislators to 75. The number of Senators cannot be less than one-third, or more than one-half, of the number of Assembly members.
The Legislature is a bicameral body, consisting of the Nevada State Assembly, with 42 members, and the Nevada State Senate, with 21 members. The Legislature meets at the Nevada State Capital in Carson City.
