Filing a Claim for Unemployment Benefits Online Claiming Unemployment Benefits in Michigan If you are receiving UIA benefits, you may be eligible for food assistance.
You can check the status of your claim in your MiWAM account. From your My Account tab you can see the type of claim you have; regular Unemployment Insurance (UI), Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA), or Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC). You can also see if there is additional action you need to take under Account Alerts.
When you apply for unemployment, you will need all of the following: You can choose to have your benefits paid in one of two ways. You can have them put on a debit card from the Unemployment Insurance Agency (UIA), or you can have your benefits directly deposited into your bank or credit union account.

There are two options for payment. Direct deposit through your bank or credit union – You will need your routing number and account number; UIA debit card; Questions about your claim? Contact UIA; Visit Michigan.gov/UIA for tools and resources; Access your MIWAM account 24/7; Chat with an agent Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.
Benefit payments will be issued in 2-3 business days. If you do not receive your payment in 2-3 business days, you can chat with an agent through your MiWAM account or contact UIA by calling 1-866-500-0017. You may also certify by phone at 1-866-638-3993 Monday - Friday; 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
