IMDb has a 10-star movie rating system. This allows users to vote with a whole range of different appreciations. However, as far as I know, there is nowhere any explanation of what a score of ‘3’ or ‘9’ is supposed to mean. IMDb leaves it up to the user to decide how to rate a movie.

It means people are searching you. Starmeter is a gauge of you being “the talk of the town” and by town I mean internet. Normally you spike when a project comes out or you do something newsworthy (die, you kill someone, etc) to cause people to look you up.
It's a terrible standard beyond extremes. A 1 star on imdb is probably bad, but then you get plenty of good movies in the 3-6 star range and if a film is beloved, you'll see the 8-9s. Basically, if it needs improvement but could still be enjoyed imdb hates it.

To me, IMDb ratings are incomprehensible, since I have no idea what any level means. I can't tell you how I would rate a specific film on IMDb, so I don't use the system. On Letterboxd, I have decided to use the Goodreads scheme, which makes it possible for me to rate films.

One word of caution: latest movies tend to be overvalued and their rankings lower as time passed by. For example, CM101MMXI Fundamentals (2013) has a current rating of 9.2 with 690,768
