Stanley George Miller (born October 10, 1940), better known as Mouse or Stanley Mouse, is an American artist who is notable for his 1960s psychedelic rock concert poster designs and album covers for the Grateful Dead, Journey, and other bands.
Stanley designed the covers for Grateful Dead’s debut album as well as the compositions used for the covers of the band’s Workingman’s Dead, American Beauty, Europe ’72, From the Mars Hotel, and Terrapin Station albums, and Jerry Garcia’s Cats Under the Stars album cover.
12 gru 2021 · The Grateful Dead ‘s first album cover was designed by Stanley Mouse in collaboration with Alton Kelley, a pair that would create a whole lot of trippy Grateful Dead art over the years. The photo of the band was taken by Herb Greene, and then Kelley turned it into a collage and mouse assembled the actual cover design.
Two of their most famous images, one featuring ZigZag cigarette rolling papers and another, the Grateful Dead skeleton and roses motif, became symbols of a generation. Kelley and Mouse were innovators of the most important art movement of the latter part of the twentieth century.
