21 mar 2013 · I want to display an empty string if the field is the minimum date (1/1/1900), but my CASE statement doesn't work; CreatedDate displays 1900-01-01 00:00:00.000 in my query when that value is in the database. I'm using SQL Server 2008 R2.
19 sty 2001 · The solution is in-fact a workaround or a quick fix than a total solution, since a blank date can be either a NULL or 1900-01-01. 17 lis 2015 · You can't get an empty string because you're returning the DATE value type from ISNULL. Per the docs, ISNULL. Returns the same type as check_expression. If a literal NULL is provided as check_expression, returns the datatype of the replacement_value.

Here's why this works: If you select a date which is NULL, it will show return NULL, though it is really stored as 01/01/1900. This is why an ISNULL on the date field, while you're working with any date data type will not treat this as a NULL, as it is technically not being stored as a NULL.
When inserting such data (without email) into the table, there are two available choices: set cell to NULL or set it to empty string (''). Let's assume that I'm aware of all the technical implications of choosing one solution over another and I can create correct SQL queries for either scenario.
