I have written a SQL query that I would like to be able to call and run from a VBA sub in an excel workbook and then bring the query results into the workbook. I have found some subs online (stackoverflow and other places) that claim to do this but I am having trouble understanding them as they contain no explanation.

21 kwi 2023 · I need to download some data from a database (Microsoft Windows Server 2012, SQL Server 2012) into Excel (Windows 11, Office 2016). If it was a one-time data dump I'd just use Data -> Get Data -> From Database and use the resulting sheet.
Although we can create External Data Sets in Excel that pull information from a SQL Server Database there are times when you want to check a value or lookup a value from an underlying SQL Server database directly from an Excel formula. Using VBA we can do this!
