I'll add that you can also run Microsoft SQL Server on MacOS now as well, since they have a production ready Linux port. Microsoft T-SQL (their implementation of the SQL standard) is in use in quite a few corporate environments, so it's worth playing with.
DBeaver is similar but not identical - it can connect to many different types of SQL databases. If you just want to run "SQL", then PostgreSQL is a good choice. If you must use MS SQL, then you can't run it on mac, and will need to use windows.
if you don't want to deal with setting up a server: if you want a regular transactional/operational database: SQLite. if you want a data warehouse / analytic database: DuckDB. if you don't mind installing / configuring / connecting to a server: PostgreSQL.
