19 mar 2023 · Spey Rod Guide Spacing. After a nearly 30-year hobby building dozens (maybe hundreds) of fly rods, I'm finally building my first Spey Rod. My blank is from North Fork Composites, designated LMX FASY 1267-4 (fast); translating to 12'6" 4-piece, 7 wt, fast action rod.
3 sty 2017 · I've started a build, completed the lower section (minus stripping guide), and will now start progressing up the rod on the guides. The epoxy I've used on the butt section is some 1-hour stuff by Crystal Clear that's in 8 ounce bottles.

3 sty 2018 · Here are the tips that I usually find to cast well for various spey rod weights: 5wt or lower spey rods: T-7 at the most, otherwise better off with "Sink" type tips. The grain weight of "Sink" type tips does not necessarily increase with the sink rate (ie. a Sink 3 tip can weigh the same as a Sink 7 tip).
I have set up a moveable, vertically tracked platform that clamps the rod into a plane parallel to the siding increments. Each 4 inch increment represents one guide on the rod. A 12 foot rod would require the rod to be mounted on the track at siding line number 12.
