The Southern reedbuck (Redunca arundinum) is an elegant antelope from Africa. It was first described by Pieter Boddaert, a Dutch physician and naturalist, in 1785. It gets its name from two Latin words: reduncas (meaning bent backward and curved, while the horns are bent forwards) and arundo (harundo) (meaning a reed).
The southern reedbuck is larger than both the mountain reedbuck (Redunca fulvorufula) and the bohor reedbuck (Redunca redunca). The horns of males are much longer than the other two reedbucks, and lack the distinctive hooked tips of the bohor reedbuck.
