10 gru 2022 · The CIR Expert Panel evaluated the scientific data and concluded that sorbic acid is safe for use in cosmetics and personal care products. According to EWG, sorbic acid is rated as a 3 on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being the lowest overall risk to health and 10 being the highest.

The biocidal product (“TC 3”) is used as a 10% aqueous solution of potassium sorbate and applied in preventive treatment of wood only. Due to the low vapour pressure of potassium sorbate (< 10-5 Pa, 25°C, 50 °C), inhalative exposure to vapour is of minor relevance.
Sorbic acid, or 2,4-hexadienoic acid, is a natural organic compound used as a food preservative. It has the chemical formula CH3(CH)4CO2H and the structure H 3 C −CH=CH−CH=CH− C (=O)OH. It is a colourless solid that is slightly soluble in water and sublimes readily.
