Interactive tool to learn about ratio map scales in mathematics.
Calculate map distance given map scale and ground distance. Map Scale: 1: Ground Distance: Map Distance Units: At a map scale of 1:100000, 1 kilometer on the ground is equivalent to 1 millimeter on the map.
A calculator for determining lengths based on map scale and ratios of two scales. Calculate scale, distance on the map or real distance on Earth. Please enter two values, the third will be calculated.
Free lesson on Scales on maps and diagrams, taken from the Ratios topic of our QLD Senior Secondary (2020 Edition) Year 11 textbook. Learn with worked examples, get interactive applets, and watch instructional videos.
Measure an element on a drawing or a map and note its value a a (any unit). Then measure this same element in reality and note its value b b (same unit as a a). The scale is the result of dividing a/b a / b.
Map Scales and Ratio. In order to represent large distances in a small space, scales are used. If we want to know the actual distance of things on a map, we must multiply the distance they are on the map, according to the scale. So if a scale is 1:2000, we must multiply the distances by 2000.
