Ultraviolet B (UVB) phototherapy delivers shortwave ultraviolet radiation to treat skin conditions such as psoriasis. Phototherapy works by suppressing DNA synthesis, which in turn reduces inflammation.
Redness, burning and blistering of the skin. UVB may cause your skin to become red, burnt and (rarely) blistered. We try to avoid this, but some tanning and redness of your skin is likely. Please let the nurses know if your skin becomes red, burnt or blistered after your UVB treatment.
Redness. After any treatment session, if your skin becomes pink or red, blistered, hot or uncomfortable (e.g., like sunburn) report it to the phototherapy nurse at your next appointment. If symptoms are severe, please contact the phototherapy nurses as soon as possible on 020 8216 5770.
