According to the Hebrew Bible, the Tribe of Simeon (/ ˈ s ɪ m i ən /; Hebrew: שִׁמְעוֹן Šīm‘ōn, "hearkening/listening/understanding/empathizing") was one of the twelve tribes of Israel. [1] The Book of Joshua locates its territory inside the boundaries of the Tribe of Judah (Joshua 19:9).
Simeon was known to be fearless, and he had a fiery temper. In Scripture, we read of his cruel anger when he kills the man who raped his sister. But his vengeance is so violent that he also kills all the men from Shechem’s tribe. This evil deed caused Simeon’s tribe to receive no land of their own.
