Simeon (Hebrew: שִׁמְעוֹן, Modern: Šīmʾōn, Tiberian: Šīmʾōn) [1] was the second of the six sons of Jacob and Leah, and the founder of the Israelite tribe, The Tribe of Simeon, according to the Book of Genesis of the Hebrew Bible.

When Joshua led the Israelites into Canaan, the land was divided among the twelve tribes. The tribe of Simeon received cities within the territory allotted to Judah (Joshua 19:1-9).
To Simeon was allotted a portion of land out of the territory of Judah, on its southern frontier, which contained eighteen or nineteen cities, with their villages, spread round the venerable well of Beersheba.
Simeon was the brother whom Joseph held hostage until Benjamin should be brought to him (42:24). Some have suggested that this was in punishment for Simeon’s violent nature. It is much more likely that Joseph held him simply because he was the second oldest brother.
The tribe of Simeon is derived from the second-born of Jacob’s sons. Simeon was known to be fearless, and he had a fiery temper. In Scripture, we read of his cruel anger when he kills the man who raped his sister.
