Chapter 301 of the Texas Occupations Code (TOC) contains the Nursing Practice Act (NPA) which creates the BON and defines its responsibility for regulating nursing education, licensure and practice. Chapter 303 relates to Nursing Peer Review and Chapter 304 relates to the Nurse Licensure Compact.

The practice of nursing includes patient care and all nursing practice defined by the party state’s practice laws. The practice of nursing will subject a nurse to the jurisdiction of the nurse licensing board, the courts, and the laws of the party state.
The Texas Nursing Practice Act includes statutes that can be found in Chapter 301 of the Texas Occupations Code, as well as rules and regulations found in Title 22, Part 11 of the Texas Administrative Code.
