The saltworks of Trapani fall within the Nature Reserve of the Saline di Trapani-Paceco, one of the most uncontaminated reserves in Western Sicily. In these saltworks, which extend for about 1000 hectares, for thousands of years man's knowledge and tradition has harmoniously combined with nature to create the Sea Salt of Trapani.
There has been salt production on Western Sicily for 3.000 years. The area is perfect for the purpose thanks to the high salinity of the Mediterranean Sea and a climate characterized by low precipitation, lots of sun and frequent wind to help evaporation, as originally discovered by the Phoenicians.
Our salt is made by the simple evaporation of the sea in the pans and then hand-harvested and dried by the Sicilian sun and winds. This simple process keeps it rich and full of important necessary minerals such as Iodine, Magnesium, Calcium, Zinc and Phosphorous.
