There is also a version officially called Shin Red Super Spicy though its package design is actually more black, which is spicier than the original. Give me that heat, I’ll take the Red. Red personally but I buy both depending on mood. Black has a creamyness that mutes the sharp spice of the red.

I use about 1/3-1/2 the flavor packet in the red shin ramen and its always great when made with other, fresh ingredients, like healthier rice noodles, ginger, garlic, shallot, and sometimes doubanjiang. Still need to try the black, the red one is easier to get around here though.
I prefer the broth flavor of shin black much more. Shin Black has three packets, two soup base packets and the veggie packet. It makes the broth a bit richer tasting. The flavor is different and I prefer the red one. I definitely don't think that the price increase is worth it.
