20 lis 2022 · Saint brakes use Shimano's old style lever perch. XTs (as well as every other 4-pot brake in Shimano's line) employ Shimano's newer style perch. I am under the impression that lever internals are the same from one brake to another. Inasmuch as I'm a fan of the old style perch, I bought the Saints.
26 maj 2023 · The front brake on my Giant (2022 XT) suffered all the issues (wandering bite point and micro leaking caliper contaminating pads)! Until I got the Giant I'd been a total Shimano brake fanboi. The Saint brakes on my fat bike have also been flawless.
1 maj 2019 · Shimano reports that the 4-piston XT caliper is 20% stronger than the 2-piston version and my non-scientific assessment is that the Saint feels an additional 50% more powerful still. These brakes are strong enough to get you out of trouble, saving your line when you need it most.
3 maj 2024 · I also feel that their brakes are largely poorly engineered compared to their peers, previous iterations of XT brakes had flexy levers (not an issue here) and other problems that make me wonder what their testing process is like.
2 pistons are more grabby, whereas 4 pistons are more progressive - has to do with the hydraulic leverage ratio which has to do with pressure and surface area. 4 pistons also dissipate heat better, again due to the surface area, but that also depends on the pads you use.
