Marine stings include venomous or contact stings from any marine creature. The main culprits causing contact stings are jellyfish and jellylike animals, fire coral, sponges, hydroids, and sea anemones; while penetrating injuries are caused by sea urchins, cone shells, and venomous fish.
The most commonly affected areas were the hands and arms, followed by the legs. Stings were found to elicit rapid skin reactions, typically manifesting within 5 minutes. Fishermen frequently complained of itching, a burning sensation, and the appearance of erythematic wheals.

Stingrays. All create wounds are at risk of infection with marine organisms, most notably Vibrio species, Aeromonas species, and Mycobacterium marinum. Shark bites result in jagged lacerations with near-total or total amputations and should be treated in the same way as other major trauma (see Evaluation and Treatment of the Trauma Patient).
The main symptoms of sea creature stings are intense pain where you're stung and an itchy rash. Jellyfish and Portuguese man-of-war stings can also cause raised stripes on the skin (welts).
