The first thing that led me to mid is I like AP Shaco much better than AD Shaco. AP Shaco in my mind is a scaling champ that can almost guarantee a win if you get to full build. My problem was in the jungle my teammates want me to gank and focus objectives, which doesn't help me scale at all.
Shaco is a great early pick, as enemies can't be sure about your playstyle and damage type. You can go for cc, anti-tank, assassin, bruiser (not as much right now, but AD Shaco is getting buffed soon so...) And even engage catalyst if your comp allows it.
I use 5 different builds depending on the team comps. My mythic is either gale force, kraken, sunfire, or liandries. For your build, I used that build quite a bit, I recommend going sheen, beserkers, finish essence reaver, get gale force, infinity edge, storm razor, ravenous hydra.
