30 sty 2019 · Hi all, So I have this vision of turning my Compaq Presario 460 with external SCSI CD-ROM drive into a setup for playing audio CDs. HW-wise, the setup works, however I am struggling to find a good program for playback control that would work.
19 wrz 2019 · Using a CD-ROM drive in MS-DOS requires loading a CD-ROM driver in config.sys as well as loading MSCDEX.EXE in autoexec.bat. If you match the /D switch on both, the drive will work, but there are tricks to getting optimal performance and memory usage.
30 lis 2013 · Alright, it just seems it's down to choosing the correct driver and constructing the CONFIG.SYS 'DEVICE=' statement. Choosing the right driver: That Mitsumi CR MC-FX00IDE is an IDE drive, so OAKCDROM.SYS or VIDE-CDD.SYS ought to work. MTMCDAS.SYS is a driver for the proprietary (non-IDE) CD-ROM drives and so won't work.
MSCDEX is the real-mode MS-DOS file system redirector used in conjunction with your CD-ROM driver for accessing CD drives. The CD-ROM driver, which is provided by your CD-ROM drive manufacturer, provides the hardware and protocol specific software interface to your drive.
