It is inspiring to hear the rehearsal of a life well-lived, but almost without exception it has been the music (hymns and songs) that touched me most profoundly and comforted me at funerals. Just let the music start and healing tears come easily.
My wife and I have assisted with music at funerals for most of our married lives. It got to be such a frequent thing a few years ago that we made our own 'funeral hymnal' for prelude/postlude use. The hymns are arranged by key, so that you can easily chain them together, and include LDS hymns as well as some old Protestant stand-by's.

Funerals. Music for funerals might include prelude music, an opening hymn, special musical selections, a closing hymn, and postlude music. Simple hymns and other songs with gospel messages are most appropriate for these occasions. Opening and closing hymns are usually sung by the congregation.
