Luke 16:1 identifies that Jesus is speaking to His disciples, but there is a suggestion that His audience is mixed—disciples and Pharisees.
3 lip 2014 · I. The Assertion of the Parable. There are essentially three stages to this parable, each centering on the steward. I have called them 1) the steward’s predicament, 2) the steward’s plan, and 3) the steward’s prudence. 1. The Steward’s Predicament. The steward’s predicament is seen in verses 1-2.
Jesus is calling his disciples to become as savvy to the ways of the kingdom as other people are savvy to the ways of the world. Then in verse 9, he will give his disciples a street-smart spiritual rule to follow—a way to prosper in the kingdom of God. LUKE 16:9-13. YOU CAN’T SERVE GOD AND MAMMON.

Jesus tells the first parable to the disciples (16:1), but the Pharisees, who were lovers of money, were listening in and scoffing at Him (16:14). So the ensuing instruction and the second parable are aimed primarily at the Pharisees.
