Self-Locking Retaining Rings are ideal for applications that have high rotational requirements. This feature allows the ring to function properly at speeds that exceed the recommended rotational capacity. The self-locking option can be incorporated for both external and internal rings.
External retaining rings, also called snap rings or circlips, fit into grooves cut into shafts to help retain components and keep the shaft inside the assembly. They are removable and reusable for easy maintenance and repair on high-wear components.
SEEGER circular self-locking rings have a concentric fit and a low radial height and can be used on shafts and in bores without a groove. The material of the shaft or housing must be softer than the ring‘s material.
Smalley offers special retaining ring design features for many different assembly considerations, including applications that have high rotational capacities, balance requirements, and interlocking requirements. Contact a Smalley Engineer to discuss a special ring design for your application.
