Seán O'Casey (Irish: Seán Ó Cathasaigh [ˈʃaːn̪ˠ oː ˈkahəsˠiː]; born John Casey; 30 March 1880 – 18 September 1964) was an Irish dramatist and memoirist. A committed socialist, he was the first Irish playwright of note to write about the Dublin working classes.
Sean O’Casey is widely considered to be one of the most accomplished playwrights of the twentieth century. Using his own experiences as fodder for his writing, his plays served as a commentary of the political and social scene of his time.
Sean O'Casey. 1880 - 1964. Born John Casey in north-inner-city Dublin in 1880, O'Casey was one of 13 children, only five of whom survived past infancy. From the age of five, Sean suffered from ulceration of his left eye, which made him almost completely blind in later years.
