Seahorses are mainly found in shallow tropical and temperate salt water throughout the world, from about 45°S to 45°N. [8] They live in sheltered areas such as seagrass beds, estuaries, coral reefs, and mangroves. Four species are found in Pacific waters from North America to South America.
Habitat. Giant seahorses are found over reefs, and in protected bay and subtidal seagrass habitats, from 1-20 m in depth (most commonly from 3-18 m). They are often seen with their tails wrapped around black coral trees, strands of sea grasses and sea whips, and the branches of gorgonian corals, in order to camouflage themselves from predators.

This seahorse is found from Cape Cod (and rarely Nova Scotia, Canada) southward to Bermuda, the Bahamas, shores of the Gulf of Mexico, Cuba, Haiti, Lesser Antilles, Caribbean coast of Panama, and Columbia, and the Atlantic coast of South America to Uruguay.
Hippocampus ingens is an Eastern Pacific endemic seahorse that inhabits mangroves, coral and rocky reefs, seagrasses, and macroalgae to a depth of 60 m.
The lined seahorse lives in the western Atlantic Ocean as far north as Canada and as far south as the Caribbean, Mexico, and Venezuela. It swims in an erect position and uses its dorsal and pectoral fins for guidance while swimming.
Habitats include mangroves, seagrass meadows, rocky reefs, coral reefs and sponges. Other common habitats are sea kelp and eelgrass. They also camouflage around the branches of gorgonians and black corals. South America specifically is home to an abundance of aquatic ecosystems.
